Start the new school year by enjoying the outdoors, connecting with fellow student-athletes, families, and Athletics staff, and building community in a fun and active environment. This scenic group hike is a great way to promote physical wellness, relieve stress, and welcome the new school year together. Whether you're new to school or returning for another year, all fitness levels are encouraged to participate. Be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes, bring water, and get ready for a great time on the trail.

Dear Parent/Guardian: Athletics is an integral part of the school’s total educational program.  All school activities, curricular and extra-curricular, in the classroom and on the playing field, must be congruent with the school’s stated goals and objectives established for the intellectual, physical, social and moral development of its students.  It is within this context that the following Code of Ethics is presented. As an athlete, students understand that it is their responsibility to: Place academic achievement as the highest priority. Show respect for teammates, opponents, officials and coaches & respect the integrity and judgment of game officials. Exhibit fair play, sportsmanship and proper conduct on and off the playing field while refraining from the use of profanity, vulgarity and other offensive language and gestures. Adhere to the established rules and standards of the game to be played & maintain a high level of safety awareness while respecting all equipment and use it safely and appropriately. Refrain from the use of alcohol, tobacco, illegal and non-prescriptive drugs, anabolic steroids or any substance to increase physical development of performance that is not approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration, Surgeon General of the United States or American Medical Association. Know and follow all state, section and school athletic rules and regulations as they pertain to eligibility and sports participation. Win with character, lose with dignity. Athletic Code of Conduct for Parents/Guardians/Fans Parents/Guardians/Fans will be responsible for their words and actions while attending any sporting event and shall conform their behavior to the following code of conduct: Will not engage in unsportsmanlike conduct with any coach, parent, player, participant, official or any other attendee and will not encourage their child to do so either. Will not engage in any behavior which would endanger the health, safety or well being of any coach, parent, player, participant, official or any other attendee and will not encourage their child to do so either. Will not use drugs or alcohol while at an interscholastic or youth sporting event, and will not attend, coach, officiate or participate in an interscholastic or youth sporting event while under the influence or drugs or alcohol and will not permit their child to do so either. Will not engage in use of profanity and will not permit their child to do so either. Will treat their coach, parent, player, participant, official or any other attendee with respect regardless of race, creed, color, national origin, sex, sexual orientation or ability and encourage their child to do so also. Will not engage in verbal or physical threats or abuse aimed at any coach, parent, player, participant, official or any other attendee and will encourage their child to not engage in these behaviors either. Will not initiate a fight or scuffle with any coach, parent, player, participant, official or any other attendee and will not encourage their child to do so either. ASSUMPTION OF RISK GENERALLY: ​By signature hereon, parent/guardian hereby expressly and specifically assumes the risk of injury or harm in the activities and releases and holds harmless the school and its board members, staff, volunteers, vendors, agents; the school district; and State of California from all liability for injury, illness, death, or property damage resulting from the activities; and voluntarily and knowingly assumes all responsibility for participation; and further acknowledges that this voluntary activity and/or transportation to and from (as applicable) may expose the student to potential harm including injury or death. By signing hereon, parent/guardian hereby releases and forever discharges the school, its board members, staff, volunteers, vendors, and agents from any and all liability, claims, and demands of whatever kind or nature, either in law or in equity, that arise or may hereafter arise from participating in the activities. If student believes that an unsafe condition or circumstance exists with respect to the activity(ies), student will discontinue participation and immediately notify school staff. Student shall not further participate until the unsafe circumstance is remedied. Parent/guardian hereby agrees to remain responsible at all times for supervising the student(s)

I understand and agree that use of such Recordings will be without any compensation to the student or the student's parent or guardian.c. California Department of Education Updated April 2020 Parent/Guardian and Pupil Sudden Cardiac Arrest Warning Signs and Symptoms Information and Acknowledgment FormOn July 1, 2017, Assembly Bill 1639, known as the Eric Paredes Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) Prevention Act went into effect. This requires the pupil and their parent or guardian to read, sign, and return an SCA form of acknowledgment before the pupil participates in any athletic activity. Districts may use this form, a form located on the California Interscholastic Association (CIF) website, or design their own form. An SCA acknowledgment form must be signed and returned to the school site each school year. On August 30, 2019, Assembly Bill 379 also added sudden cardiac arrest prevention requirements to the Health and Safety Code for youth sports organizations. The amended Health and Safety Code, Division 106, Article 2.5: now includes, Youth Sports Concussion and Sudden Cardiac Arrest Prevention Protocols [124235-124236].What Is SCA?SCA occurs suddenly and often without warning. It is triggered by an electrical malfunction in the heart that causes an irregular heartbeat. With the heart’s pumping action disrupted, the heart cannot pump blood to the brain, lungs, and other organs. Seconds later, a person loses consciousness and has no pulse. Death occurs within minutes if the victim does not receive treatment.Who Is at Risk for SCA?Thousands of sudden cardiac arrests occur among youth each year, as it contributes to the #2 medical cause of death of youth under the age of 25 and is the #1 cause of death of student athletes during exercise. While a heart condition may have no warning signs, studies show that many young people do have warning signs or symptoms but neglect to tell an adult. This may be because they are embarrassed, they do not want to jeopardize their playing time, they mistakenly think that they are out of shape and need to train harder, or they simply ignore the symptoms, hoping the signs will go away.Possible Warning Signs and Risk Factors• Fainting or seizure, especially during or right after exercise• Fainting repeatedly or with excitement or startle• Excessive shortness of breath during exercise• Racing or fluttering heart palpitations or irregular heartbeat• Repeated dizziness or lightheadedness• Chest pain or discomfort with exercise• Excessive, unexpected fatigue during or after exerciseRemoval from ActivityA pupil who faints during or following participation in an athletic activity must be removed from play and may not return to play until they are evaluated and cleared by a physician and surgeon, nurse practitioner or physician’s assistant.
